Our special place on campus is the relaxing and peaceful little area with benches surrounded by trees, and near the torch statue. This area is right in front of Holt Hall and serves as a serene place for people to take a stroll through, read a book, sit and chat, or simply appreciate the beauty of the nature here on our beautiful campus. As a group, we spent a lot of time in this particular location looking for our trees and discussing our tree project. The statue represents knowledge, making this statue relevant to our studies about the trees in the vicinity of this statue.
The four of us share a group attachment to this specific place because we have spent time there as a group, but also because this is a place shared by a community. Since this location is a common and known area to sit and relax in a quiet area on campus, the community at Chico State University shares this connection. Although various groups of people use this location for different purposes, we still share the bond to this place on a group level.
In addition to our group attachment to this place, we also have processes we use now that we have become identified with the place. For example, we share a cognitive bond with our special place. A cognitive process is the idea that the more you knowledge you have about a place, the more likely you are to become attached to a place. Since we have been learning so much about the various trees on campus, we know more about this area filled with trees. Because we share this knowledge about our special place, we are more likely to form opinions about the location or how it is used.
